We all learn from our everyday lives based on our experiences, either by only observing or by personally experiencing it.
People do learn from each other. But who would have thought that this netizen would learn a very important lesson in life from a young boy who was even mistaken as a snatcher by others?
In a post by Diana Alcarmen as shared by Showbizread website, she never thought that a young boy inside a well-known fast food chain would remind her of a very important lesson in life.
Diana shared that she was inside a Jollibee store when she met the 12-year-old boy named Jairus, who was sitting in one of the tables.
“After a very tiring 3hr appointment with SSS today, i brought my daughter for lunch at Jollibee. There we saw this boy sitting alone inside eating burger and fries.
Two Jollibee staff approached the boy, briefly talked to him then left him to eat again. It was then I realized it was almost high noon. Lunch time. Peak hours for the restaurant. I was a little worried that they might ask the boy to leave to make room for other “paying customers” given his untidy appearance.” Diana shared
Diana continued that there were three people who entered the fast food and took the next table next to Jairus. One of them sat down with bags of Chocolates and counted the items of what seemed to be “pasalubongs.”
“Then three people entered the restaurant and took the table next to him. They had 2 huge luggage and two large bags of Duty Free. One of them sat down and took out about 3 bags of Nestle mini chocolates and counted what seemed to be “pasalubongs” from abroad.” She said*
The other guy then told his companion “order na kami ha” as he looked at the boy sitting alone and added “yang bag mo tingnan mo” as he gestured towards the other table. The woman, in response, pulled the bag closed to her.
After seeing what happened, Diana approached the boy and asked him to sit with her and her daughter.
She also learned that the boy’s mother left them and that he and his brothers are working as street sweepers.
“Disgusted by what I witnessed, I tried to get his attention by staring at him, he looked at our direction and my daughter waved hi to him. he waved back and smiled so i took the opportunity to ask him “may kasama ka ba?” he said “wala po” in a very shy manner. I said “lika dito gusto mo? tabi ka nalang samin” so he carried his food and transferred to our table. I asked him if he bought the food he was eating. He said that a nice lady who saw him outside the resto brought him in and bought him those before leaving. I also found out that he is already 12 though he only look as big as my 8 y/o son. He said his name is Jairus and that he had stopped going to school because their mom had left them. He lives in Naguilian road near SLU Girl’s High but he and his 13 y/o brother work as sweepers “taga walis” at Greenwater Baptist Church near SpEd along Military Cut-Off that’s why he was in the area.”
“Wala po kasing makain sa bahay.” he added.
Diana shared that Jairus speaks as if he was shy, with his gentle voice.
“His voice was very gentle. He was very shy. But he smiled a lot. He is actually a handsome kid. Kinda looked like Makisig Morales during his Super Inggo days.
I asked him how they go home everyday. He told me that they would walk from their home in Naguilian road to the church in Military Cut-Off and back daily.
I asked him if the people in that church know him, he said yes especially Pastor John/Jan. “
Because of the nice feeling she feels for the young boy, Diana offered him to call her when his birthday approaches as Diana is planning to give him something for his special day.
“I was surprised to know that we are both November babies. So I wrote down my number and indicated “Ate Diana” and gave it to him. I instructed him to contact me when his birthday is near so I could give him a little something.
“My daughter then started getting cranky and sleepy so it was time to leave. But before that, I asked him what food he likes, and just like a typical kid he said spaghetti. So I bought 2 sets of meals for him and his brother and gave him little money for “pamasahe” so he won’t have to walk home anymore.. atleast for tonight.” Diana said
Jairus also said that the female staff of Jollibee told him to come back the following day.
“sabi po niya (female staff) balik daw po ako bukas dito kasi bibigyan daw po niya ako ng pagkain.” He said.

Then after hearing this very nice thing, Diana realized something.
“Few days ago I asked Eman to buy me a lotto ticket for 4 combinations hoping to win that 1B prize so I could also help others in need.
But after seeing the huge difference between how those “Duty Free people” gave him the cold-shoulder versus how the “minimum wage earner staff” offered to help him was a big eye opener for me.
Turns out being rich is never a requirement for helping people out.”
